Service Description
Somatic EMDR Therapy – Online Sessions for Individuals We offer Somatic EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy via secure online sessions for self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants across Australia. This powerful, evidence-based therapy is designed to help you process and heal from trauma, distressing life experiences, anxiety, or chronic stress. Our approach gently integrates somatic (body-based) awareness with traditional EMDR to support nervous system regulation and long-term emotional well-being. Each session is tailored to your NDIS goals and current needs—providing a safe, supportive space for your healing journey, from the comfort of your own home. What is Somatic EMDR? Somatic EMDR follows the standard 8-phase EMDR protocol, enhanced by somatic techniques that help you stay grounded and connected to your body throughout the process. Below is an overview of the eight phases: Phase 1 – History Taking & Treatment Planning We begin by exploring your background, current challenges, strengths, and NDIS goals. This helps us tailor the therapy to your unique needs and build a treatment plan. Phase 2 – Preparation You’ll learn grounding, resourcing, and regulation strategies to help you feel safe and in control. Somatic tools such as breath awareness, orienting, or movement may be used to support your capacity to stay present. Phase 3 – Assessment We identify a specific memory or target for processing, along with the associated thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and beliefs. This helps guide the EMDR reprocessing. Phase 4 – Desensitisation Using bilateral stimulation (such as tapping or eye movements), we begin processing the memory. The goal is to reduce distress and shift the memory’s impact on the body and mind. Phase 5 – Installation We strengthen a new, more adaptive belief that you want to hold about yourself—for example, shifting from “I’m powerless” to “I’m in control now.” Phase 6 – Body Scan Together, we scan the body for any residual tension or discomfort. Somatic awareness helps ensure that healing is felt both emotionally and physically. Phase 7 – Closure We bring each session to a safe close, using grounding techniques to stabilise you before the session ends. You’ll leave feeling calm, connected, and supported. Phase 8 – Re-evaluation Review progress and determine if further processing is needed or if a new target can be addressed.
